Overview
1959 Riva Tritone - Hull #147
A Masterpiece of Italian Heritage. Professionally Restored to Perfection.
The 1959 Riva Tritone is one of the most iconic wooden runabouts ever built and the direct predecessor to the legendary Riva Aquarama. Crafted by Carlo Riva at the famed Cantieri Riva shipyard in Sarnico, Italy, the Tritone embodies the pinnacle of mid-century design, performance, and craftsmanship. Only 258 were produced, and Hull #147 stands today as one of the finest surviving examples in existence. The only Tritone of this calibre in Australia.
Over the past four years, this vessel has undergone a meticulous, no-expense-spared professional restoration, the culmination of nearly a decade of careful preservation and planning. Every aspect of the boat has been returned to as-new condition by expert restorers in Pittwater Australia, with heavy involvement from the Riva factory.
The hull was completely stripped and structurally restored, professionally sheathed to add extra strength for the modern-day boater, and finished with sixteen coats of varnish and five coats of protective wax, resulting in a mirror-like depth of gloss. Both original 220 hp Chrysler V8 engines have been fully rebuilt to factory specification, complemented by a complete electrical rewire and new period-correct gauges supplied directly from the Riva factory in Sarnico. Every chrome fitting has been re-plated and polished, while the upholstery has been renewed in the traditional Riva white and turquoise colour scheme, capturing the spirit of la dolce vita with flawless authenticity. The vessel is offered together with a brand-new custom aluminium trailer purpose-built for this boat.
Hull #147 has been owned by the same Australian family since 1995. Its exceptional provenance and condition place it among the world's most original and well-cared-for Tritones, a true museum-grade example and an heirloom for generations to come.
The Riva Tritone remains a symbol of Italian elegance and sophistication, admired for its timeless lines, deep-V hull, and impeccable balance of power and beauty. This extraordinary example offers a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine piece of nautical history. A collector-level classic, fully restored, turnkey, and ready to grace the harbours of Sydney or any private collection worldwide.
