First 24m Nordhavn 80 Expedition Yachtfisher yacht in-build

Flagship International Yacht Brokers are proud to announce that construction of a new 24.38-metre Nordhavn 80 Expedition Yachtfisher sportfisher yacht is underway. She is due to be delivered to her owner in 2025.

Built for the owner of Sockeye Blue, a 2009 Nordhavn 75 Expedition Yachtfisher, the Nordhavn 80 Expedition Yachtfisher is developed as a larger version of her predecessor. The purchaser “loved his boat but after seven years of ownership, he felt like he needed a little more space.”

Staying true to the 75 Expedition’s interior living spaces, the Nordhavn 80 Expedition Yachtfisher boasts additional outdoor space, as requested by her owner. Rather than including a traditional cockpit, the EYF yacht exhibits a three-foot longer California deck, which extends into a secondary lower deck.

Furthermore, the upper aft deck was lengthened outward by four-feet to shade the California deck, and new moulds were employed for these sections.

Nordhavn Chief of Design Jeff Leishman stated that “Essentially he wanted us to bump out the back to increase the length and give him more space in the upper part of the California deck. Primarily it was to give more clearance between the doorway and the seating area, but he had other things he wanted to tweak,”. Incidentally, this happens to be the preferred seating location of the owner which happens to also be located just in front of the triple door bar fridges located on the California deck.

While the 75 EYF’s upper deck offers space for two side-by-side settees and tables, the 80 EYF’s expanded square footage means she can now incorporate a drinks fridge and a spot to install a bin for recyclables.

In addition to her maximised alfresco entertainment areas, the new 80 EYF version is set to display the signature, modern Nordhavn design, characterised by frameless pilothouse windows.

This owner is a native of Queensland, Australia, and a passionate game fisherman who has owned many sportfishers. “He loves the lifestyle so much, and loves bringing guests along,” enthused Marley Cutbush, his Sydney-based Nordhavn sales rep. “The desire for a bigger boat was a matter of allowing for more people to enjoy the mezzanine deck in comfort and protection while fishing.”

Moreover, the extension of the yacht’s waterline length is intended to optimise performance and seakeeping abilities. The lengthened prop shaft is accompanied by the inclusion of a Y strut that was featured on the Nordhavn 96 model, which will “ensure the prop is spinning in smooth water, thus increasing efficiency,” Nordhavn Yachts explained.

“With the new N80, he will mix more cruising and expeditions in with the sportfishing. Fiji, New Caledonia, and Vanuatu are all on the list to both explore and chase fish, as well as cruising through southeast Asia,” Cutbush concluded.
