Presented at Dusseldorf in 2020, this Pirelli 42 marks a quantum leap in the development of Pirelli Maxi Ribs, innovating traditional models with a range of walk-around boats characterised by a completely new design, created by the prestigious Mannerfelt Design Team. This combines creative design features with proverbial experience in the manufacture of high performance hulls.
Comfort and Look, Sure. But mainly sportiness

The Pirelli 42 has been designed and built for demanding boat owners in search of sportiness and comfort while still delivering function and space you wouldn't expect from a RIB. Her spacious deck, wide beam, modern features and walk-around decks make her the perfect day boat or yacht chase boat.

Function by Nature

The most surprising element of the Pirelli 42 is her usability and function as a family day boat. From afar, one might be forgiven for thinking she's solely a performance machine. But after spending some time onboard you realise the practicality of this RIB as a fully functioning day boat or even weekender.
The space onboard is utilised perfectly to deliver wide walk around teak decks making her perfect for families. The aft access to the deck area with a machinery room and storage below utilises the 42's beam to the max and is a perfect fishing platform or sun chair for relaxing. Forward of this the dining area is incredible, fitted with 2 large bench seats facing a large dining table. These benches provide ample seating and can be adjusted to face for or aft so as a guest tender for a large yacht.

Midships is a utility galley with 2 large fridges, an ice maker, prep benches and storage designed for prepping lunches or knocking up cocktails. There's an electric grill and sink under the benches and some handy cup holders. This galley section also supports the hardtop and acts as the support for the helm seats forward.

The boat is accessed by easy walk around decks and sports a nice sun bed for relaxing and catching some rays. There's easy access to the anchor locker and a nice little aft facing love seat. The bow is slightly squared off and includes a step tread which forms a great guest access landing when picking up from higher wharfs.

Weapon. Enough Said.
The top speed of this triple 300hp Mercury set-up is one thing. The way she performs is something else completely. The ease of operation from the time you fire up the engines through to the time you hit top speeds is truly incredible. The press of a button and your engines are running quietly on the back (or press another button and they're not so quiet). Engage your Mercury joystick and you can manoeuvre the boat wherever you choose with the flick of a wrist. Bit too windy? No worries, just use utilise the bow thruster. From leaving the dock, everything is effortless. Running through the rev range the amazing thing is how quiet and smooth she is. At "Real Estate Cruise" speeds you don't hear the engines running and your sipping fuel thanks to the efficient hull design and lightweight construction. The helm position hosts 3 seats with adjustable bolsters and phenomenal visibility around the boat. As you start to bring your speeds up you appreciate the full windscreen that sweeps from the bow to the hardtop. While salt spray is a rarity as she's such a dry ride boat, there's a washer/wiper on the windscreen to ensure your vision is never impaired, which is important when cruising around Sydney harbour at 40 knots! Throwing this weapon into some tight, albeit high speed turns I felt as through she was on tracks, not water. Big banking turns make for a thrilling performance and a serious amount of fun, all the while feeling safe and under control. Hitting some ferry wash at speed proved her ability to slice and dice vs bang and slap which is a welcome surprise for a lightweight performance machine and makes her the perfect harbour day boat or yacht chase tender.

Down below there's the comfort of a nice bed, plenty of storage and a separate shower and head. The feeling down here is spacious and roomy while being minimalist and modern. Fitted with Air-Con, afternoon naps or kids hangout down here is perfect on a hot day.

By far one of the coolest features is the Mercury Skyhook function. At the press of a button the GPS location of the boat is pinged to the engines and they work independently to maintain the boat position using steering and thrust. This function allows the boat to maintain its position while not at the controls. Think about hanging on the spectator line of the sail GP or Sydney to Hobart, hanging out the front of the marina while you get lines ready, waiting off a dock for guests or hanging over your favourite deep sea fishing spot. Amazing.

What we Say
As the video suggests, I was so excited to take this weapon for a spin. I was blown away by the internal space onboard and her usability as a family day boat. The performance was a given but how smooth she was at high speeds was what really surprised me. A late model Pirelli with only 85 hours on the clock and loaded with options, she's certainly a good contender for a yacht chase boat or family day cruiser alike.
